On Device Solutions is set to implement one of the first SAP Service and Asset Manager’s Safety Technician Personas for Leading Renewable Energy Client.
On Device Solutions is pleased to announce a recent contract win with a leading renewable energy company to implement the Safety Technician persona in SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM).
This project builds on an existing relationship with the enterprise and marks a strategic next step in expanding mobile-enabled SAP functionality across more operational personas.
While many organisations have already adopted SSAM for maintenance or inventory management, the Safety Technician persona has only recently become available. This new implementation positions On Device Solutions among the first to deliver the persona to a live customer, highlighting the company’s ongoing innovation in the SAP mobile space.
Bridging a Key Safety Gap
The Safety Technician persona fills an important gap in how safety activities are managed in asset-intensive environments. Traditionally, safety processes such as permits and isolations have either been handled manually or using separate applications outside of SAP.
This persona brings those safety processes into SSAM, allowing safety teams to manage their tasks using the same mobile platform already used by maintenance teams — creating a more unified and streamlined experience.
A Possible Use-Case: Safety Before Maintenance
To understand the value of the Safety Technician persona, consider the following real-world example shared by the project team.
In high-risk environments such as a chemicals factory, when a piece of equipment requires repair, the job doesn’t begin with the maintenance technician. Instead, a separate safety department must first take several key steps:
- Obtain permissions and permits for the maintenance work.
- Perform isolations to ensure the equipment is safely disconnected from the rest of the production line.
- Confirm the environment is safe for the maintenance to proceed.
Only after these actions can the technician begin their work. Once the job is complete, the safety team returns to do final checks and reconnect the equipment to resume normal operations.
Historically, this process has not been well integrated with SAP systems. But with the Safety Technician persona now available in SSAM, all these tasks can be managed from a mobile device — within the same system used for asset and maintenance management.
Why It Matters
This is more than just a technical implementation — it reflects a shift in mindset. Many organisations have long focused solely on the maintenance aspects of SAP Service and Asset Manager, but have yet to consider how safety personas can be supported as part of a broader enterprise mobility strategy.
For this renewable energy client, the decision to implement the Safety Technician persona is a natural extension of their investment in SAP mobility. It allows them to:
- Streamline both safety and maintenance processes into a single mobile solution.
- Reduce reliance on manual steps or external applications.
- Create clearer coordination between safety and maintenance teams.
This project is an example of how businesses can take a more holistic approach to operational mobility — using SSAM not just for maintenance and inventory, but also for more complex and regulated safety procedures.
Encouraging Broader Adoption
As one of the first implementations of this kind, On Device Solutions encourages other customers who are currently using only the maintenance persona to explore the potential of the Safety Technician persona. It offers an opportunity to simplify safety processes, improve operational clarity, and ensure that all key personas in the field are supported by a consistent mobile experience.
