SAP WORK MANAGER CASE STUDY – GRUNDFOS
On Device Solutions (ODS) partnered with Grundfos, the world’s largest pump manufacturer, who are based in Denmark with more than 19,000
employees globally. Their business provides water solutions globally, with the Grundfos Group represented by over 85 companies in 55 countries.
Grundfos Group’s Service Area, which covers 44 Countries and over 1,100 technicians, rolled out the SAP Work Manager as a standard service order mobile solution to cover around 100,000 orders per annum.
When the project was implemented it was delivered on SAP Mobile Platform (SMP) 2.3. SAP subsequently announced end of life for SMP 2.3 and recommended customers to migrate to SMP 3.0. Therefore, Grundfos were looking to upgrade from SMP 2.3 to SMP 3.0 as well as implementing
some additional enhancements. They approached SAP for advice, who recommended that they should seek consultation from On Device Solutions.

ODS Team were able to deliver the SMP upgrade and other enhancements like Google Maps integration within a 3 months period. We provided Grundfos with consultants based in the UK and India, who worked together with Grundfos to ensure we worked within an agreed budget and timeframe.
Once the upgrade project was delivered, we held meetings with the Grundfos Solution Architect at our offices in the UK to discuss performance tuning, which was a long standing issue. With our expert knowledge of front-end and back-end, we were able to optimise the transmit time from 2-3 minutes to 30 seconds. In this iteration, we also rolled out Work Manager on iOS devices, which had previously only been deployed on Windows Mobile devices.
On Device Solutions and Grundfos have built a strong working relationship, as they feel ODS has an excellent team, and we have good understanding of Grundfos requirements.

- SAP Agentry is a niche platform and it is important to choose your partner wisely.
- Performance Tuning requires expert knowledge of all layers of the architecture.
- Using a mixture of onsite/offsite and onshore/offshore ensured that support was available for a large period and costs were lowered.
- Finding an internal team of super-users was hugely beneficial. It ensured that there was support internally with both testing and rollout.
