The SSAM 2511 release highlights several areas receiving continued investment within the platform, alongside an indication of SAP’s future priorities.

The company has updated its release approach for SAP Service and Asset Manager, moving from two major releases per year to a model consisting of one major release followed by three minor ones.

According to SAP, this approach is intended to support quality and stability while allowing new functionality to be delivered through smaller, more frequent updates.

Maintenance and Field Service

Several recent enhancements focus on maintenance and field service scenarios.

Updates include changes to the home experience, introducing a tabbed layout designed to provide quicker access to key information and application areas. Calendar functionality has also been enhanced with event and task indicators to provide additional visibility of scheduled and outstanding activities.

Support for split capacity assignments has been expanded, allowing users to view and confirm work associated with split assignments. Navigation between related work orders and notifications has also been enhanced.

Additional confirmation capabilities have been introduced to support cooperation and verification scenarios, including QR code-based confirmation processes.

Mapping Capabilities

Mapping remains an area of ongoing development within Service and Asset Manager.

Recent enhancements include support for vector tile basemaps and offline maps. Users can also access GIS feature attributes and initiate actions directly from map-based information.

Further developments include the ability to identify equipment, functional locations, notifications and work orders within a selected area of a map. Enhancements to offline map functionality have also been introduced.

External Workforce Support

Service and Asset Manager now includes support for an external field service technician persona.

This capability is intended for third-party technicians and includes integration with SAP Field Service and Asset Management Crowd Service.

Recent updates have also introduced support for safety technician personas within Dynamic Forms scenarios.

Warehouse and Field Logistics

Recent developments extend Service and Asset Manager support for warehouse and logistics processes.

Capabilities now include mobile processing of inbound deliveries and delivery items within Extended Warehouse Management (EWM). Users can update documents, create tasks, perform packing activities and post goods receipts from mobile devices.

Additional functionality has been introduced to support returns processing and container packing activities.

Synchronisation and Offline Working

Support for offline and low-connectivity environments remains an area of development.

Recent updates include upload-only synchronisation, allowing transactions to be uploaded without initiating a delta download. SAP has also introduced additional enhancements related to offline mapping capabilities.

Dynamic Forms

SAP continues to expand Dynamic Forms functionality within SAP Service and Asset Manager.

Recent enhancements include support for safety-related forms, permits and certificates. Dynamic predefined text can also be displayed within Smartform fields, allowing contextual information to be presented directly within forms.

Additional Enhancements

Other recent additions include:

  • Technical object filtering for work orders, operations and notifications
  • Configurable start and end date properties for operations
  • Bulk download capabilities for PRT documents associated with work orders and operations

  • Artificial intelligence capabilities
  • Dynamic Forms
  • Utility-focused functionality
