SAP continues to develop Field Service and Asset Management (FSAM), with the 2608 update highlighting current developments alongside planned enhancements across the platform.

SAP’s published direction for FSAM focuses on four strategic areas:

Capacity Planning and Scheduling
Capacity Planning and Scheduling remains an important area of development, with planned enhancements designed to provide greater visibility of workloads and resource utilisation.
Planned developments include:
- Improved workload and capacity calculations
- Daily capacity views
- Holiday-aware technician availability
- More balanced workload distribution across regions and work centres
- Graphical Gantt-style scheduling
- Schedule snapshots
- Configurable capacity charts
- AI-assisted workload insights through Joule using natural language queries
Planning and Dispatch
Planning and Dispatch continues to receive investment through several planned enhancements. These include bulk updates across multiple activities, enhanced validation when closing activities and additional capabilities for Supporting Technicians within crews. Planned developments also include time zone-aware scheduling, capacity visualisation for technicians and crews, dispatcher planning lanes and configurable planning views.
Service Mapping
Planned enhancements to Service Mapping include crew visualisation within service maps, closer integration between the Dispatching Board and mapping, navigation between planning views and map objects, ArcGIS Enterprise integration, technician location controls and integration with SAP Geographic Enablement Framework.
Artificial Intelligence and Joule
Artificial intelligence continues to feature prominently across Field Service and Asset Management. Joule is included in several planned scenarios relating to planning, scheduling, administration and mobile working.
Additional AI capabilities include assignment duration prediction, scheduling policy management, scheduling analysis, technician skill gap identification, knowledge retrieval based on historical service information and mobile effort capture using natural language.
In addition, SAP has outlined AI Agents designed to support scheduling policy management, scheduling analysis and explanation, technician skill gap identification, Business Rules management, master data management, and other administrative and configuration activities.
Mobile Field Service
Mobile Field Service continues to receive investment across technician productivity and mobile capabilities. Planned developments include:
- Background synchronisation
- Route views
- Search within Smartforms
- Configurable home screens
- Configurable work item screens
- Progressive Web App support
- Offline communication for Progressive Web Apps
- Mobile integration with Joule
- Accessibility improvements
- GPS tracking
- Plant Maintenance notification creation
Customer Self-Service
Customer Self-Service also forms part of SAP’s ongoing plans. Areas identified for future development include improvements to portal usability, enhanced technician selection, configurable booking policies and AI-assisted recommendations based on previous service interactions and available knowledge.
Master Data and Crew Management
SAP has also outlined planned enhancements across Master Data and Crew Management. These include reservation enhancements, crew reservation support, crew management improvements, permission group management, AI-assisted filtering, user-defined fields and AI agents supporting master data management.
Integration
Integration remains an important area of development within Field Service and Asset Management. SAP continues to invest in integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, SAP S/4HANA Private Edition, SAP Business Network Asset Collaboration, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP IS-U, SAP Geographic Enablement Framework and ArcGIS Enterprise.
Additional integration scenarios include equipment synchronisation, work centres, organisational structures, measurement readings, external workforce support, proactive maintenance and maintenance execution.
Platform and Extensibility
SAP also continues to develop platform capabilities supporting administration, configuration and extensibility.
