SAP Intelligent Asset Management

We can help you understand the value of SAP IAM for your business through product demos and relevant use cases discussion.

SAP INTELLIGENT ASSET MANAGEMENT

Asset heavy industries must continuously deliver against three objectives while planning and executing the design-to -operate process for assets.

Intelligent Asset Management
  • Drive safe operations: measured by a reduction in safety and environment incidents.
  • Reduce cost: measured as a reduction in the total cost of ownership of the asset. Increase speed and accuracy of decision making.
  • Maximise productivity: by increasing overall equipment effectiveness and uptime.

To continuously delivers on these three objectives organisations need to look at Asset Management more holistically:

  • They must collaborate better with suppliers, customers, and service providers.
  • Optimise asset maintenance processes and move from cyclical to predictive and intelligence driven maintenance schedule.
  • Have a real time view of asset on a strategic and operational level.

SAP Intelligent Asset Management (IAM) is a suite of cloud solutions from SAP in the area of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) that promises to deliver a holistic 360-degree view of assets across the supply chain. It builds on SAP’s strong expertise in operational asset management (delivered through the SAP Plant Maintenance module) and adds intelligence and collaboration to it using the latest technologies like IoT, predictive analytics, mobile, networks, etc.

At On Device Solutions, we have taken an early lead in building expertise in SAP IAM. We have consultants trained in IAM and have also developed relevant user cases in our demo environment to showcase how IAM can add value for SAP customers.

SAP INTELLIGENT ASSET MANAGEMENT ARCHITECTURE AND COMPONENTS

Management Products and Services

SAP IAM is a suite of cloud solutions that comes with standard integration with SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA.

ASSET CENTRAL FOUNDATION

Asset central provides the data foundation for SAP IAM. This data foundation layer is automatically synched with customer SAP EAM (ECC or S/4 HANA system) e.g. notifications, work orders, functional locations, and equipment data.

The data model is further enhanced in IAM to allow for collaboration data to be stored e.g. models and indicators data in IAM.

SAP ASSET MANAGER (SAM)

SAP Asset Manager (SAM) is the mobile asset management solution for SAP ECC or S/4HANA. It builds on decades of SAP’s experience in mobile asset management, the next generation tool now comes with standard integration with SAP IAM as well.

More information about SAM can be found here

SAP ASSET INTELLIGENCE NETWORK (AIN)

In a typical asset lifecycle, there are various stakeholders involved, these include:

  • Manufacturer and supplier: responsible for the design and production of the asset and supply of spare parts
  • Engineering and construction: companies that design solutions for the asset operators typically use multiple asset types from multiple manufacturers.
  • Asset operator/owner: companies responsible for the day-to-day operations of the assets.
  • Service providers: companies providing asset maintenance services.

SAP AIN provides all these stakeholders with a common platform to exchange useful information so that they can all play their role in the supply chain more effectively.

With SAP AIN for example:

  • The manufacturer can publish safety recall notices to others and consume asset failure information.
  • Engineering and construction companies can publish designs and drawings and consume asset failure information.
  • Asset operators can publish asset failure information and let the manufacturer manage asset master data.
  • Service providers can publish asset improvement recommendations and consume the latest maintenance instructions.

SAP ASSET STRATEGY AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT (ASPM)

To strike the right balance between three objectives (safety and compliance, reduced cost & increased uptime) of an effective asset management regime, it is important to weigh up risks and critically assess each approach. For example a run to failure may be right for one asset type but disastrous for another.

SAP ASPM allows companies to derive and fine tune their asset maintenance strategies based on asset risk and criticality. Various asset maintenance strategy development methodologies are supported:
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM)
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

SAP PREDICTIVE ASSET INSIGHTS (PAI)

Traditional maintenance strategies like Reactive Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance typically result in over maintenance and high cost.

With technologies like IoT becoming readily available and cost effective more and more customers are moving towards a predictive maintenance regime. Predictive maintenance aims to prevent unplanned failure while reducing un-necessary asset maintenance.
