In this blog we will see how we can leverage the powerful combination of Internet of Things (IoT) & myJobCard Mobile Asset Maintenance solution to avoid or reduce the time taken to fix unplanned breakdowns.
We are going to look at the use case of an IoT powered industrial machine maintenance. Imagine there is a motor at a packaging machine which is essential for the assembly line. This motor is monitored with sensor data to report any critical issues. As soon as this motor stops working due to a fault, the Operations Manager will get a notification and the Maintenance Technician will receive a Work Order on their Mobile Device in real-time to prepare to fix the problem.
Let’s take a quick look at the architecture of the demo setup. We have Raspberry Pi connected sensors that stream data into the SAP Leonardo IoT Services. The data is then passed to Application Enablement through the Data Ingestion Pipeline. This is where we have defined rules to detect a condition and trigger an action to create a Work Order in SAP S/4 Hana (or ECC) system. Once a Work Order is created, a push notification is sent to myJobCard app via SAP Cloud Platform mobile services.

The SAP Leonardo Internet of Things service cockpit is where we have defined our devices, sensors and capabilities. We can also view live data that is ingested from the sensors we have configured.
SAP Leonardo IoT Application Enablement provides various powerful real time business services which can be used to build our own IoT Applications.
Within SAP Leonardo IoT Application Enablement we can define rules to check incoming data from sensors (for e.g. temperature sensor) attached to a
machine. These rules can be configured to trigger an IoT Event in case the data crosses a certain threshold.
